Pitfalls

Don't dwell on the technical details; try to think broadly about technology and your organization's strengths and weaknesses.

Review areas of existing technology use within your organization, but don't analyze them to death.

Don't assume that technology will fix all of your organization's problems.

Don't assume that technology planning team will have to think through and implement every last detail.

Don't get sidetracked by spending a lot of time reviewing the latest technologies available to do everything. Try to keep an eye on the horizon, understanding that information technology is a fast-moving target, and it is a target you won't hit. The hardware and software should hit YOUR target.
