Society for Contemporary Crafts
The Tech Team assessed its programs to identify ways that technology could improve effectiveness of delivery. The following strategies came from Tech Team's work.
PROGRAMS
Exhibitions
* Increased access to the Internet will allow more efficient and effective research in planning exhibitions and identifying new artists.
* With the use of cds, dvds and videotape technology, SCC exhibition programs will be viewed and utilized by school groups, individuals, and other craft organizations from across the country, allowing them to interface with leading craft artists and view exhibitions designed specifically for the Internet as well as highlights of past exhibitions. Such improvements in the Exhibition area's communication and information systems will dramatically increase its ability to deliver quality shows to audiences both in person and on the web.
*The inventory of SCC's permanent collection will be easily accessible to staff through an improved database.
Education
* With the use of this multimedia technology, students from across the country will be able to take a virtual class, view artist demonstrations and download study materials.
*The use of technology will enable Education staff to accept class registrations via the Internet and track students for demographic information.
BUSINESS ENTERPRISE
The Store
* SCC will have an exciting presence on the Internet via e-commerce, attracting art collectors from all over the world.
* We will be able to educate collectors and designers on the contemporary craft field through on-line chat sessions, personal shopping opportunities and tours of a virtual store.
* The Store staff will be able to increase their communication with members and frequent shoppers through tracking and personal notes in the audience database, rendering direct mailings (via mail and email) more effective.
* The Store staff will be able to more effectively maintain inventory records with an updated FileMaker Pro solution.
o With appropriate software that allows us to communicate with Federal Express and UPS via the Internet, we will be able to print our own shipping labels and automate the entire shipping processes.ADMINISTRATION
Membership
* SCC will fulfill its five-year goal of obtaining 700 members by creating on-line marketing initiatives, reaching national and international potential members. We will embark on an e-mail campaign to gather as many addresses as possible in order to inform our members of exciting news sent via e-mail, thereby enhancing the delivery of our programs. New and renewing members will be able to complete forms via the web and contact us with suggestions as well.
* We will research other electronic member programs such as NetMet at the Metropolitan in order to determine a benchmark goal.
Development
* We will be able to efficiently communicate with current funders and reach out to potential regional and national funders through the use of a comprehensive database, teamed with Internet research.
* Though an increased web presence, we will be able to reach many more individual donors as well, and create new fundraising opportunities for them.
Web Site
* SCC will be able to regularly, and easily, update web listings and other electronic information directories.
* SCC will have the appropriate staff and expertise in place to upgrade and maintain its Web Site on a weekly basis, and will have the appropriate resources to undertake a complete redesign/upgrade of the site every three years (or as necessary).
