Questions to Help Focus Your Research Efforts

Is the information you need general or specific? Can your phrase the topic into a series of research questions?
What type of information about your topic will be most useful?
What do you already know about your topic that will help your refine your search?
What keywords can you use with a search engine?
What are some unique keywords that describe your topic?
How can you use AND, OR, NEAR, NOT, or wildcards to focus search engines results? Can you think of any experts on the topic, reference materials, or organizations that may have a Web page with useful information?
Can you guess their url?
How will you collect and organize your leads (electronic/paper)?
What leads have you collected do you think will be most useful?
What leads provide the best quality of information?
In reviewing what you've bookmarked, what new insights have you gained?
Have you gathered enough relevant information to stop searching and begin answering your research questions?
