ISP

What does it mean?

ISP stands for Internet Service Provider, a company that provides access to the Internet. For a monthly fee, the service provider gives you a software package, username, password and access phone number. Equipped with a modem, you can then log on to the Internet and browse the World Wide Web and send and receive e-mail.

Why is it important?

To be successful to today's complex world, nonprofit organizations must be "Online Organizations" What does this mean? According to an article by OneNorthwest, "Seven Characteristics of an Online Organization it is one that has fully integrated online
communication (primarily email and the Web) into the way they work and communicate with their membership, colleagues, or the public or the media. Not only should your organization be connected to the Internet, but everyone staff person should have access to the Internet from their desktop computer and an email account.
